Science Café: Groundwater and Surface Water Interactions of the Riverbed.

Tuesday, March 21, 2023

Interactions between rivers and their surrounding aquifers vary significantly which can limit the exchange of water, energy, and materials. In this talk, Dr. Wu will introduce the principles of groundwater and surface water interactions in riverbeds, followed by an example focusing on the implications of seasonal river-groundwater disconnections for streambed exchange in arid and semi-arid environments such as those found in our region. Dr. Liwen Wu is currently a postdoctoral researcher in Eco-Environmental Research Laboratory, Westlake University in China. She holds a doctoral degree in Geography from the department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences in Humboldt University of Berlin and a Master of Science degree in Environmental Engineering from KTH-Royal Institute of Technology.
