Biography
Tessa Abeyta is a native New Mexican who was raised in Los Alamos. She was drawn to Las Cruces via New Mexico State University where she received her bachelor’s degree in Government in 2009. In 2020, Tessa began her first term in office for Las Cruces City Council. She is proud to be raising her three children in such a vibrant and diverse district.
Tessa worked as a lobbyist for the Child Advocacy Centers (CAC), where she was instrumental in helping pass legislation to place the CACs in the statute. She also worked to secure funding for them and the New Mexico Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs. She continues her advocacy as the Co-Executive Director for the New Mexico Public Health Association.
District Priorities include building community engagement and communication, addressing aging infrastructure, supporting Quality of Life programs, and revitalization of the El Paseo Corridor.
