Departments

City Manager's Office - Administration

The City's Administration department is responsible for a variety of tasks, including: overseeing the city budget; preparing and administering contracts; coordinating interdepartmental activities; overseeing personnel matters; and assisting the City Manager in carrying out his or her duties.

Economic Development

The City's Economic Department is responsible for attracting new businesses to Las Cruces and helping existing businesses expand. The department works to create jobs and improve economic success in Las Cruces.

Community Development

The City's Community Development department is responsible for planning and zoning, code enforcement, and housing and community development programs. The department works to ensure that the City of Las Cruces is a safe and vibrant community.

Finance

The City's Finance department is responsible for maintaining the city's financial records, preparing the city budget, issuing bonds and other debt instruments, and investing city funds.

Fire

The City's Fire Department is responsible for providing fire protection and emergency medical services to the City of Las Cruces. The department has a variety of programs and services designed to protect residents, businesses, and visitors from fires and other emergencies.

Human Resources

The City's Human Resources department is responsible for recruiting and hiring city employees, managing employee benefits and records, and overseeing employee training and development.

Information Technology

The City's Information Technology (IT) department is responsible for providing information technology services to the City of Las Cruces. The department manages the city's computer systems, networks, and data storage; and provides support to city departments.

Legal

The Legal Department is responsible for providing legal services to the City Council, City Manager, and all other organizational units within the City. The Department also works to ensure that City operations are ethical, effective, efficient, and transparent. In addition to providing legal advice, the Legal Department also handles risk management and compliance issues.

Parks & Recreation

The City's Parks & Recreation Department oversees and manages the City's parks, recreation facilities, recreation programs, pools, and sports leagues. The department is responsible for maintaining and developing the City's park system, which includes both neighborhood and regional parks. The department also operates and manages the City's recreation facilities, which include community centers, swimming pools, and sports complexes. The department provides recreational programming for all ages, including after school activities, sports leagues, and swimming lessons.

Police

The City's Police Department is responsible for providing law enforcement and public safety services to the City of Las Cruces. The department has a variety of programs and services designed to keep residents, businesses, and visitors safe.

Public Works

The City's Public Works department is responsible for maintaining the city's infrastructure, including: streets, sidewalks, and traffic signals; and Facilities Maintenance.

Quality of Life

The City's Quality of Life department is responsible for enhancing the quality of life in Las Cruces through programs and services that promote health and wellness, arts and culture, and recreation and leisure.

Utilities

The City's Utilities Department is responsible for providing water, wastewater, and solid waste services to the City of Las Cruces. This includes supplying water to residents and businesses, collecting and treating wastewater, and disposing of solid waste. The Utilities Department also manages the City's stormwater system.
