The purpose of the Lush and Lean program is to help residents of Las Cruces make the best use of the limited water resources available by developing and maintaining gardens and landscapes that are also water-wise. Each year the Water Conservation Program hosts a series of workshops on water-wise landscaping, irrigation, gardening, and related topics. The workshops are free and open to the public.
Topics
Learn to select trees, shrubs, flowering plants, and cacti that are adapted to the hot, dry, southern New Mexico climate. Install irrigation systems that provide the right amount of water to each plant-not too much, not too little. Harvest rainwater from the rooftop and contour the land surface to direct water flows to plants rather than the sidewalks.
All workshops are free and will take place at the Branigan Library, Roadrunner Room, 200 E. Picacho in Las Cruces. Workshops are on Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
